Abstract:
“This year marks a turning-point in the world of personal technology. For around 30 years PCs in various forms have been people’s main computing devices. Now the rise of mobile devices, including smartphones and tablet computers, threatens to erode the PC’s dominance, prompting talk that a “post-PC” era is finally dawning. Mobile devices' impact will be far-reaching. They were the first machines truly to democratise computing power, boosting personal productivity and giving people access, via the internet, to a host of services from anywhere at anytime. ”

Abstract:
Predictive Analytics encompasses a variety of statistical techniques from modeling, data mining, and game theory that analyze current and historical facts to make predictions about future events. In business, predictive models look at patterns of behavior via data to identify risks and opportunities. Predictive analytics is used in actuarial science, financial services, insurance, telecommunications, retail, travel, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and other fields.
CRM uses predictive analysis in applications for marketing campaigns, sales, and customer services. In health care, analytics are used to determine which patients are at risk of developing certain conditions, like diabetes, asthma, heart disease. And in the financial industry, the credit score is used to evaluate the customer’s ability to make payments on time, etc

Topic: Agile Methodologies in Software Development
Speaker: Dr. Swapn Sinha
Date/Time: Saturday, 10/15/2011, 1:00 - 2:00 PM
Location: NPU Administrative Building, Conference Room C, 47671 Westinghouse Dr., Fremont, CA 94539
Abstract:
Software development is one of the major revenue earners for Silicon Valley firms. Until now the development has been happening in a tight one-way fashion using waterfall methodology, but it has been found to be expensive, time consuming, and rigid. Start-up companies cannot waste their resources in such long term development. Therefore, a new technique has been found called Agile or Scrum. Scrum or Agile software development is an iterative and incremental development methodology. The Agile Manifesto introduced the term Agile in 2001. It is based on the fact that requirements evolve through collaboration between self-organizing, cross-functional teams. Agile states that planning has to adaptive. Agility refers to evolutionary development and delivery in a time-boxed iterative approach with rapid and flexible response to change. Foreseen interactions throughout the development cycle can happen in agile development. Agile management methods can also be applied in other development projects than just software development. We will discuss agility, its benefits, and approaches to faster development.
